What made you decide that music is a thing for you?

When I was 17 and learned to play guitar I was taking my GCE A levels at Worcester Technical College and met a fellow student, Mike Bastin  Mike wrote his own songs and his father had a small home recording studio. I thought that I would try my hand at writing my own songs too. I recorded my first song at the home studio . When I saw the spinning tape reels and the flickering meters on the tape machines there was a kind of magic about it  It was real creativity, something original from nothing . From then on I knew that this was all I really wanted to do….

GLASTONBURY ROAD

John Michael Cross

Glastonbury Road is an arranged, acoustically based singer-songwriter album whose songs reflect the unusual and unexplained atmosphere of the Glastonbury area. Many of the songs refer to a search for something different, freedom of expression and lack of convention as shown in the Glastonbury Festival and by many people who live in or visit the area.
–
The title track ‘Glastonbury Road’ gives impressions whilst driving along the A361 road, past the entrance to Worthy Farm and the Glastonbury Festival Site, travelling between Glastonbury town and the studio in Shepton Mallet, when making this album.
–
Despite the Glastonbury references, care has been taken to retain a certain ‘Pop’ element in the songs to appeal to as wide an age range as possible. It was not intended to make a ‘niche’ album with only limited marketing potential.
–
John Michael Cross is a singer-songwriter who originally recorded his songs with record producer Graeme Holdaway in the 1990’s. Since that time he has released singles and albums, gaining widespread airplay in the UK, USA, Europe and Australia.
–
The album is produced and arranged by Graeme Holdaway, best known for recording the first songs by Damon Albarn as a solo artist, Blur, Sonia Kristina, Transglobal Underground and many others. Graeme has recently moved from London to establish a new recording studio in Shepton Mallet, Somerset.
–
I hope that you enjoy the wide range of recordings on this album.
Recorded in Shepton Mallet, near Glastonbury, Somerset, England.

John’s astonishing lyrical range is capable of evoking anything. Projecting folk and blues across a contemporary backdrop with crystalline clarity
